Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium bowl, combine the chopped apples and granulated sugar. Allow the mixture to stand for 30 minutes, allowing the apples to macerate and release their juices. (30 minutes)

02

Step

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 10x15 inch baking pans to prevent sticking. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Stir the water into the apple mixture. In a separate small bowl, blend the beaten eggs and melted margarine. Add the egg mixture to the apples, combining well. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until just combined. Gently fold in the raisins and chopped walnuts. Transfer the batter evenly into the prepared baking pans. (20 minutes)

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool slightly in the pans before turning them out onto a wire rack. (1 hour)

05

Step

While the cakes are still warm, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, blend the confectioners' sugar, hot water, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze evenly over the warm cakes, allowing it to seep into the crumb. (5 minutes)

For an even more intense apple flavor, try using a mix of different apple varieties, such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
Toasting the walnuts before adding them to the batter enhances their nutty flavor.
The cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Feel free to substitute the margarine with melted butter for a richer flavor.
