For a deeper flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of Worcestershire sauce. To thicken the sauce further, remove the lid during the last 15 minutes of simmering. This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 3 months. If you don't have stewed tomatoes, diced tomatoes work just as well.
